Agarwood essential oil is obtained through the distillation of Aquilaria crassna wood. This tree, cultivated in Laos, has the unique ability to react to damage caused by insects or fungi (natural infection) by producing an intensely fragrant, dense, and dark-coloured resinous wood. After harvesting, the wood is selected according to its colour and quality: part of it is burned for fumigation purposes, while the remainder is distilled.
