Description

Thuja occidentalis L., or western red cedar, is a coniferous tree of the Cupressaceae family, native to North America. It can grow to a height of 10 to 20 metres, with a straight trunk and reddish-brown, fibrous bark. Its scaly, dark green, evergreen leaves are arranged in opposite pairs. This tree, often pyramidal when young, becomes cylindrical with age.

Branches are collected from cultivated trees. Also known as white cedar, it belongs to the Thuja genus and grows exclusively along the northeast coast of Canada.
