Native to the tropical forests of Queensland and New South Wales in Australia, Macadamia tetraphylla is a tree of the Proteaceae family. Also called the Queensland nut tree, it is cultivated mostly for its fruit, known as the macadamia nut. As its name implies, Macadamia tetraphylla usually has four leaves around each leaf node, whereas Macadamia integrifolia has a varied number of leaves, often three.
