Native to South America, Chrysanthellum americanum is an annual herbaceous plant of the Asteraceae family. Since its importation to Africa in the 19th century it has also grown wild on that continent, along roadsides, on fallow land and around dwellings in the highland regions. Chrysantellum extracts are made from the whole plant, which is harvested at the end of its blooming period.
