Found mostly in the Northern Hemisphere, black cohosh is a species of Actaea belonging to the Ranunculaceae family and the Cimicifuga genus, which comprises some 20 species of bushy perennial plants. This American species of Actaea is the one most often grown as a crop. It blooms in July, producing a fragrant white inflorescence that can reach a height of two meters.
