Biolandes Morocco

START DATE: 1998

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: KHEMISSET & EL KELAA, MOROCCO

Our Moroccan farm is located in Khemisset, in a northern region of the country called the “green belt,” between the ocean and the Atlas Mountains.

We also have a second production unit in southern Morocco, in the town of El Kelâa, for the processing of raw materials like rose and armoise (artemisia).

CROPS AND PRODUCTION

Using our own stills and extractors, we process raw materials from plants that we grow ourselves on site or that we gather in the surrounding area.

Our growing operations span nearly 200 hectares (495 acres), entirely converted to organic farming since 2003. One-fourth of this surface area is devoted to the cultivation of bitter orange trees from which we derive multiple products: essential oil, hydrolate, concrete, absolute, etc. The rest of the land is divided among other crops like mimosa and geranium, as well as everlasting and varieties of chamomile.

During the harvest periods, our permanent staff of some 40 employees is joined by a large number of seasonal workers (as many as 1,200 for the orange blossom harvest).
